THE HOOK UPs 2

“Oh, c’mon Ife, that you had a bad dream shouldn’t stop you from going to Church, you know” Farida sounded concerned.

“Yeah, I know but, …wait a minute, Mimi did you say I was sleep talking?” Ife asked

“Yes, you were.” Mimi answered.

“I don’t know what to make of the dream, it was a bit misleading. We were…”

“We?” Farida asked in shock.

“Who are the ‘we’?” Mimi raised her eyebrow as she asked too.

“Yes we, the three of us, in the dream. We were…” Ife was about to tell her dream when Farida cut her short.

“No, stop, don’t tell us please. Trust me, at the mention of ‘we’, every being of Farida was already scared plus I have a phobia for bad dreams, especially when I’m included.” Farida said as she stood up to leave the room.

“Where to, Farida?” Mimi’s eyes were on Farida’s back as she asked.

“To have my bath. And no, I’m not going to Church again too” Farida said as she walked out of the room.

“Jelly fish, fear fear, see you” Mimi called after Farida.

“Enh, …thank you. Madam strong” Farida responded from the door way.

At this point, Mimi turned to look at Ife…

“Hian. Ife, why is your face like that? What are you ruminating about?” Mimi asked as she sat beside Ife.

Ife kept mum for a few seconds but when she did spoke up, one could tell she was more than scared herself.

“Mimi, I have never told anyone this before, you’ll be the first. Whenever I have bad dreams and it appears to be misleading that I can’t figure it out, it usually turns out disastrous.”

“WOW! Now, I don’t know what to say” Mimi said almost in a whisper.

“Mimi, please let’s just stay home today. We’ll go to Church another day. Let’s just stay home.”

“Okay. We’ll stay. But, I don’t want you worrying too much about that dream, it might be nothing after all…” Mimi tried to cheer up Ife when they both heard Farida’s voice from the door way as she approached the room.

“I suggest we pray. I could feel fear looms in the air. I couldn’t even bath well because of fear…(She sighed)…I am afraid to say, I am afraid” Farida said as she looked from Ife to Mimi.

As the trio held hands to pray, Ife’s phone started ringing. It was Akintunde (Ife’s boyfriend). They had met 14 months ago and had been dating for 9 months now.

Her phone was on the dressing table and it was closer to Farida than the other two. Without wasting time, Farida handed the phone to Ife.

“Hello” Ife sniffed has she answered.

“Thank goodness” was the reply from Akintunde’s end.

“Love, what is it?” She asked, a bit concerned.

“Baby, please tell me you ladies are home”

“We are. Why?”

“Oh, thank you Lord. Baby, I love you. I’m not sure I told you that last night. I love you sooooooo much.”

“You did. And I love you too. But, I don’t understand, what’s up?”

“Oh baby, fear enveloped me when I heard the news on the radio, in my car, on my way to Church this morning”

“What news? You are getting me confused and scared, Love”

“I’m sorry baby. I didn’t mean to. Just that I couldn’t bear the thought of losing you…”

“Oh darling, you aren’t making any sense to me. Moreover, who says you’re losing me?”

“The news made me thought so”

“WHAT NEWS, Akintunde” Ife shouted into the mouth piece of her phone.

“There’s been a bomb blast, at the Church”

“A bomb blast? At the… Oh my goo…”

Ife passed out before she could complete her statement.

“Hello hello, baby, hello” from Akintunde’s end.

“Hello, its Mimi. Ife just passed out” Mimi answered as she picked up the phone.

“Oh my God. I’ll be there in less than an hour. And I’m glad to know you ladies are ok. Thank you, bye” Akintunde hung up before Mimi could ask a thing.

“What bomb blast? And what did he say?” Farida asked Mimi in terror as she fanned Ife back to consciousness.

Mimi herself kept a confused face for some seconds before she remembered the word ‘news’. As she did, she ran to the sitting room to put on the Television.worshiped

There it was on AIT news, the Church, the Church they would have worshiped in that morning if not for Ife’s dream, to her horror, had been bombed just that morning.
