TRUSTING GOD IN THE STORM

Ajayi Taiwo Odion

The session just started for me and things were really not going smooth. My dad called last week to say that he lost his job. I was dejected, I didn’t even know what to think. My mom works in a law firm and the whole family now rely on her income.

This evening just as I was preparing for fellowship. My phone rang and it was my dad

“Hello Folusho” He said

“Daddy, Good evening. How are you? And how is everyone at home too?” I asked

“That’s why I called o, are you in your room?” he asked.

Already scared, I said “Yes sir. What happened?”

“You need to intensify your prayers for the family o, your mum is currently in coma, don’t be scared, she will come around in no time, just pray and pray” He replied.

I lost my eardrums, I didn’t even hear any other thing that followed.

“How will my mum be in coma?” I kept wondering.

I remembered my mum telling me yesterday when we were speaking that she missed me and that she got a confirmation from God that our situation will change for good soon and now she is in coma, just like that.

It was when I came back to my senses that I discovered that I had missed 5 calls from my dad. I called him back and told him I was fine. I asked him if I could come home but he refused.

I left the room for my favourite spot at the main bowl to pray

“Daddy, I know you can hear me, I know you are there, I know you can see all that is happening. If it’s a test, please help me pass, if it is not, please let it pass” I said with tears.

I prayed more for about 30minutes and left for my room, I slept almost immediately I laid on the bed.

Waking up this morning, I had my quiet time and God assured me that things will be fine. I called dad and he said I should not worry that God is taking control of things.

I was coming out of the lecture room when my dad called.

“Folusho, are you sure you have been praying like this? Your brother just got expelled for stealing and you know your brother will never steal. So many things are going wrong, the bank officials came over today also and said we have to leave the house in a month’s time if we can’t pay for the loan” He lamented.

“Ha! Something is really wrong” I wailed.

We talked for about two more minutes and he hung up.

“God, where are you? What is happening? Do I deserve this? I am fed up, really fed up. But I know you are there, please strengthen me, I don’t want to question you, I don’t want to lose my trust in you. I have no one else to turn to. Even in all this Lord, you are my Hero” I said wrapping up the prayer.

“You have passed my test, Folusho” I heard in my spirit.

Two hours later, dad called:

“Folusho, your mum is awake!! I just got called back at work.. I don’t even know why everything is happening so fast but then your brother also has been vindicated, come home if you don’t have any test. We need to celebrate” He said.

For the next thirty minutes, I was dumbfounded, I was in tears, to think that all of that was a test, to think that I almost failed the test, I almost gave up my trust for God.

“Thank you Jesus for helping me pass”

When situations come your way.

When challenges face you.

When storms and flood surround you, do you still trust God or do you rather curse him and die?

God tests his children, so that they will move to the next level.

Being calm in the storm can only happen when you trust God.

No matter what you are currently facing, no matter the situation, I want you to know that God is aware, he knows about it and he will sort it out in due time.

Don’t ever lose your trust in God.
